I’ve been on the oil train for 5 years this January- whoa where does the time go? It’s been a journey. I’ve been very passionate about education around the oils, especially because there is so much information out there. My bread and butter were these live classes I used to do in my home in California. These classes filled my cup so much, 1- they were in person and my tiny little 900 sq ft home was FILLED with women. Each week we met for a 1 hour oil class and when we moved to Germany in 2019, I was SO sad to say goodbye to these incredible women who had grown in their knowledge of plant medicine.

Moving to Germany equals a lot of rules. The biggest of which being I am not legally allowed to hold classes in my home due to the home we rent is strictly a residential space and does not have commercial parking spaces. So I hosted the webinars LIVE, which my oil clients in other states were thrilled about. I recorded those and put them together in a training course here, they’re real, my oldest interrupts a million times, I have spotty internet, and I was really self conscious about putting them up there- they’re the LAST thing from “professional” and “clean”- but ya’ll this is my life. It is messy and I’m not ashamed of it. My husband is gone SO much and it’s just me and the girls and this is just our season and I am here for it, and my clients were also. After 8 years in nonprofit and corporate meetings and presentations, it’s perfectly acceptable for me to show up not 100% polished and rehearsed and I love it.

When we moved to Germany also, the spouse pages wouldn’t allow me to advertise my webinars unless I held a certification to back my expertise. I personally think that’s ludicrous. Some of the most intelligent people I know don’t have degrees in their subject matter and some of the dumbest people I know do have degrees in their subject matter. I don’t believe having a piece of paper makes you more valuable or intelligent on a subject than someone who does not. Not one to back down on my dreams, I decided in the 3 months after we moved to Germany and 3 months before I was to give birth, I would finish an Aromatherapy certification. I had a bad taste in my mouth from someone I knew in CA with an Aromatherapy certification, who was also posting really bashing articles that she wrote about how “essential oils are not safe for ingestion” “how (insert essential oil) companies were not safe” basically you had to agree with her or be damned. That’s not my jam. I will not shame you for your choice in essential oil company; but I will speak that not all oils are made equal and it is important that you can verify your oils are pure and not adulterated for safety. Make sure you are purchasing from an oil company directly and can trace their testing for authenticity, and steer clear from cheap oils at corporate stores and amazon. The more you know about how to verify to authenticity of an oil company, the safer it is for your family.

I believe there are several reputable companies out there because they draw different people. Think about large corporate stores. You have WalMart and Target for example. You go to WalMart for certain things or a certain atmosphere and Target for others. You probably prefer one store over the other for various reasons- the same can be said for essential oil companies. What matters to me, might not be what matters to you in terms of companies, but that doesn’t stop me from being able to educate you about essential oil usage.

And just like stores and oil companies, there are different aromatherapy schools. I happened to pick one that models the French theory of Aromatherapy and therefore advocates for SAFE and EFFECTIVE internal usage of essential oils. Plant medicine was on this earth long before western medicine came and meddled, way before pharmaceutical companies cared more about profit than helping the sick, and I believe plants can be used in all capacity: aromatically, topically, and internally. Should all plants be ingested? Uh no, ever heard of poisonous mushrooms? The ones that can be ingested, when coming from a reputable company that verifies they are pure and not adulterated, can be such an incredible tool.

I have my level 1 Aromatherapy Certification and I love it. I learned so much more than just about essential oils and it has deepened my wisdom and reverence of this potent plant magic. I’d love to share more about some of what I learned in my next blog with you and I hope you’ll stick around. I’m also working on my certification of:

-Tongue Assessment
-Balancing Chakras with Essential Oils
-Internal Usage with Essential Oils

I’m always learning more and deepening my understanding of all this earth has to bring us and I promise to share any wisdom and helpful information I find.
